31 Days of Spooky- Day 8
It was time to take a little break away from the movies and slow it down with a casual spooky TV show, and the perfect fit for the month of October is easily Over the Garden Wall. Over the Garden Wall is such a hidden gem when it comes to animated TV. It's a Cartoon Network original so you know it's going to be slightly edgy, a little weird, but overall wonderful.
What I love most about this show is its unique blend of light-heartedness and darkness. There a moments when you might stop and think to yourself "Wait, this is a kid's show right?". The characters Wirt, Greg, and Beatrice, are endearing and well-crafted, and you can't help but root for them as they navigate the unknown and attempt to make their way back home.
The show's art style is also one of my favorite aspects of the show. The hand-painted, vintage aesthetic gives it a timeless quality, making it feel like a classic even though it's a modern show. Ugh, and the music, the score and the songs created for this show are catchy and fun and set the mood perfectly for each and every episode. Over the Garden Wall does such a fantastic job of weaving folklore and fables into its narrative, making it yet another reason why it's one of my favorite animated shows.
It's a series that both kids and adults could love, thanks to its clever writing and themes that touch on life, death, and the unknown. It's a short show and an easy binge-watch, and it's perfect for a cozy evening during the fall season. So, if you're in the mood for a charming, mysterious, and beautifully animated adventure, do yourself a favor! (That's a rock fact!)
